Hello Midlife Masterpiece,

Do you know your communication style?

Are you assertive, aggressive, passive, or passive-aggressive when you speak?

The most beneficial communication style is to be assertive.

When done skillfully, being assertive improves your confidence, leverages your career, and deepens your relationships.

Too often, women are labeled as aggressive when they are genuinely being assertive.

Since society encourages women to be agreeable, we can be labeled rude or harsh when we speak directly. We can internalize this messaging and mute ourselves.

As a recovering people-pleaser in midlife, I practice assertiveness without worrying about offending anyone. I love to support women and help them feel comfortable being more direct and honest.

Midlife women have gained wisdom and life experience, and our voices deserve to be heard. We have so much to say, and when we know how to communicate our brilliant ideas effectively, watch out, world!
