Hello!
I had a great time at the No Kings March this past Saturday.
Great signs, friends, and family joined, and the inflatable animals added a festive touch. It got me thinking about ways I can continue to contribute to bringing about more effective change.
I’ve been noticing an old, troubling trend resurfacing: the notion that outspoken older women are perceived as dangerous.
We are called nasty, unladylike, or just bat-shit crazy.
If you are midlife or older, you have probably seen this trend before in your lifetime. It tends to resurface in the face of progress, and it serves as an intimidation tactic.
That’s why every time you speak up as a woman in midlife and beyond, you are doing something radical. When you share your opinion, like Jane Goodall did in her posthumous Netflix special, you are signaling that you will not be intimidated.
It feels SO GOOD to be honest and open about how you feel.
Since the patriarchy wants women to be baby factories and provide free domestic labor, we disrupt the status quo when we speak our minds.
This Thursday, 10/23, I’ll be going live here on Substack to explain why midlife women are uniquely positioned to speak out against the patriarchy.
We have decades of experience and the time and resources to make a meaningful difference.
At Thursday’s workshop, we will discuss:
What’s preventing you from speaking out, such as voice scars, societal pressures, and safety concerns.
How to speak out more by embracing your “wise” and “authentic” voice (hint: you already know enough, and you are enough)
Ways to use your voice for positive change (locally, nationally, and globally)
Strategies to protect your voice for long-term use (both your vocal health and your mental well-being)
What do you need to say? How are you speaking up? Are you facing pushback at work, home, or in your community?
Join me for the live workshop and share your experience so we can support each other’s voices and make progress together.
Stay Calm & Speak On,
Jessica
P.S. I love hosting our monthly live workshops at Love Your Voice to help women's voices grow stronger. Please share this with the women in your life who need to hear it.
