The parable of the second arrow teaches that an arrow can strike us, but being struck a second time can be our own doing.

This parable is 100% true for public speaking fear.

You may have a normal fear of public speaking, considered the first arrow. However, if you react with more fear and dread to this initial fear, you may self-inflict the second arrow of suffering.

“In life, we can’t always control the first arrow. However, the second arrow is our reaction to the first. The second arrow is optional.” -Buddha
