If you are self-critical or nervous when you speak in public, try this speech exercise to help you get out of your head:

Imagine you could rescue someone with your words and that your message was just what they needed to hear!

We speak more directly in crisis mode when there is no time for second-guessing ourselves.

“Watch out for the crashing meteor!”

“Grab this life preserver!”

This pressing feeling can help you the next time you do public speaking:

  1. Practice reading aloud these statements as if you were directly helping someone in the audience:

I can help you today...
I have a solution to your problem...

  1. Now, write or speak aloud your urgent message that could help someone solve a problem:

(Journal, record a voice memo, or just free-flow your thoughts about something important that your listeners need to hear)
